The black rhino is smaller than the white rhino and can be distinguished from the white rhino by it's hooked upper lip. The white rhino has a squared upper lip. The black rhino carries it's head higher than it's cousin and has no hump on it's neck. It's horn can be as long as 1,05 centimeters.

The male weighs up to and over 1000kg. The female is pregnent for 15 months. The calves are usually seen cantering along or behind their mothers. The black rhino is a moody animal, given to attacking people, on foot or even in cars. This mammal is threatened with extinction from poachers who kill the animal for it's front horn which is sold internationally.

The Black Rhinoceros is almost gone. Destroyed by poaching and with loss of habitat, Black Rhino's may disappear from the face of the Earth before we really get to know them. Said to be one of the most dangerous animals in Africa, the Black Rhino's habits and behavior has not been studied enough. The endangered status is focusing major attention on the Black Rhino, but there has not been enough time to get past all the scientific study and get to the real nature of the beast.
