What is Horticulture?
Horticulture is the science and art of producing fruits, vegetables, flowers, and ornamental nursery crops, and the management of horticultural enterprises.
The areas of study are floriculture (greenhouse production or flower retailing), olericulture or vegetable crops, ornamental horticulture, nursery management, and pomology or fruit care. Students gain practical experience by working in greenhouses, fields, orchards, or through internships.
The horticulture business option allows you to learn practical management skills, to allow you to manage or own a business such as a greenhouse, garden center, or a flower shop. Successful students may also consider positions in larger firms or industries.
Students who elect the horticulture production option will learn business management skills and gain knowledge to produce and propagate flowering foliage, fruit, vegetable, and ornamental plants for wholesale and/or retail outlets.
