South Hamilton Elementary students recently participated in either Jump Rope for Heart or Hoops for Heart sponsored by the American Heart Association.  The Jump Rope for Heart program allowed students in grades K-4 classes to learn and develop jump rope skills.  Fifth and sixth graders participated in Hoops for Heart which taught and reinforced basketball skills.

In addition, students learned about heart disease and stroke, the benefits of exercise, and proper diet.  Students in grades 2-6 also had the opportunity to raise money for the American Heart Association to be used primarily for research and education on heart disease and stroke.  120 students collected donations from friends and family raising a grand total of $6,763!  This is an incredible accomplishment that goes to a very worthy cause.  Heart disease and stroke are currently 2 of the 3 leading causes of death in the United States.

The students of South Hamilton Elementary would like to encourage everyone to lower their risk level be eating well, getting plenty of exercise, and by not smoking.
