Karl King Scholarship Audition Winner

South Hamilton senior Melanie Wilson, daughter of Robert and Mona Wilson of Jewell, was selected as this year's Karl King Scholarship winner.  Each year during the NCIBA Honor Band Festival, auditions are held for this scholarship.  To apply for the scholarship, a student must be a senior, plan to major in music, and plan to attend a college or university in Iowa.

The selection process for this scholarship includes a music theory test, performance of a solo, scales, and sightreading before a panel of judges, and a personal interview. There was some strong competition this year.  Several of the seven students going through this process were all-state performers.

In addition to receiving the scholarship, the winner performs a solo at the Honor Band Festival concert.   Melanie is now eligible for the Major Landers Scholarship which holds the same criteria and similar process, but she will be in competition with all of the other district winners from the other five Iowa Bandmasters Association districts around the state.

Melanie performed Solo for Oboe and Piano by Emile Paladilhe.    BreAnne Feldman was her accompanist.
