South Hamilton Students
are All-State Performers

Jennifer Smith, B.J. Bolluyt, and Brooke Olson proved they have the skills needed to be at the top of their musical fields by being selected as All-State performers this year. Few are chosen from the thousands who auditioned October 24th for the band, chorus, and orchestra who represent the best high school musicians in Iowa.

Jennifer will play her clarinet in the All State Band. Guest conductor for the All-State band will be Robert E. Foster, Director of Bands at the University of Kansas. The ensemble will perform Esprit de Corps by Jager, Invocation and Toccata by Barnes, the Nelson arrangement of the Finale from Symphony #1 by Brahms, and the Foster arrangement of La Tragenda by Puccini.

Guest conductor for the All-State chorus will by Ann Howard Jones, Director of Choral Activities at Boston University. The chorus will perform four choral dances from the opera, Gloriana by Britten, Dixit Dominus by Mozart, Dona Nobis Pacem by Bach, the Rutter arrangement of Cantique de Jean Racine by Faure and I Gondolieri by Rossini.

B.J. Bolluyt, who sings bass, and Brooke Olson, who sings alto, have submitted an audition tape to see if they will be chosen as soloists in Mozart's Dixit Dominus.

The 1998 All-State performance will be held in Hilton Coliseum in Ames on November 21.
