On May 14 the flute trio of Hillary Hendrickson, Jennifer Heeren, and Kristine Holtan performed at the Iowa Bandmasters Convention in Des Moines along with other outstanding performers from across the state. Each year at State Solo and Ensemble Contest, the top performer or ensemble in each center is selected and recognised. South Hamilton school was honored with two of these Outstanding Performance winners in 1998. Julie Heeren's piccolo solo was South Hamilton's other Outstanding Performance winner.
