Hawks sweep C-M and WM in HOIAC action
The 8th ranked South Hamilton vollyball
team kept their record unblemished with two Heart of Iowa Conference victories
last week. The Hawks swept Colfax-Mingo and West Marshall to
move their overall record to 21-0 and their HOIAC record to 9-0.
Tigerhawks stopped
SH hosted Colfax-Mingo on Tuesday, October
5 and beat the Tigerhawks in three games. The scores were 25-14,
25-14 and 25-7.
"The team struggled with intensity throughout
the match," head coach Kris Fiore said. "The team continued
to serve great while minimizing their errors." Kelsey
Hake led the Hawks on offense as she had nine kills and was 14-of-17 serving
with three aces. Tarin Bell also had a good night offensively
as she had four ace serves and dished out 15 assists. Janessa
Hove was 13-of-15 serving with two aces. Laura Read was 12-of
14 serving with two aces. She also dished out 11 assists.
Becca Swalla finished with two ace serves and Alyssa Wirtz had one.
"Kelsey Hake had a great offensive/defensive
match," Fiore said. "Janessa Hove also had a great match playing
defense." Hake finished with nine kills, nine digs and two
blocks. Brandi Easterday added two blocks while Wirtz finished
with seven digs. Laura Read added six digs.
Trojans trounced
South High travelled toWest Marshall on
Thursday, October 7 and trounced the Trojans in three games.
The scores were 25-15, 25-22 and 25-14.
"The team came out aggressive at the net
and played excellent. Jackie Smith led the servers as she was
a perfect 14-of-14. Kelsey Hake was 13-of-14 with one ace while Alyssa
Wirtz was 11-of-12 with one ace. Laura Read was 8-of-11 serving
with two aces. Becca Swalla added five kills and Hake
had four. Morgan Wright added three kills while Read and Wirtz
finished with two kills each. Bell contributed nine assists
to the offensive output and Read finished with eight.
The defensive effort ws led by Read with
13 digs while Wirtz had 11. Swalla added six digs while Smith
and Bell added five digs each. Hake finished with seven blocks
with Wirtz tallying four. Wright and Easterday had two blocks
each.
South Hamilton played rival Roland-Story
on Tuesday night and Ogden on Thursday.
