December 24 South Hamilton Record News

The Hawk wrestling team finished in second place behind Class 2A JSPC (Jefferson) at the Norsemen Invitational in Story City on Saturday, December 19. South High finished with 177 points and the Rams claimed first place with 181 points.

We had our chances to win the tournament but at a few weight classes we didn't get the breaks that we needed, head coach Todd Coy said. Overall I was pleased with our performance. We had five kids in the finals and once again had every wrestler place for us.

Hesston Johnson was the first Hawk to win a gold medal. He stuck Kevin Crawford of Nevada in 3:37 in the 145 pound finals.

Heath Johnson captured another first place medal at 152 pounds. He handled Aaron Brown of Nevada 10-2 in the final round match.

We had real strong performances out of our two champions, Hesston and Heath Johnson, stated Coy.

Jake Vold just missed winning the 125 pound weight class. He was leading Tim Lankford of Roland-Story 5-4 with four seconds left in the match and he gave up a takedown and lost 6-5.

It was Jake's first time in a title match and he wrestled well, Coy said. Unfortunately, he gave up two points at the wrong time. He will learn from that situation; it will make him better.

Amos Greene finished in second place at 135 pounds. He lost his finals match to second rated Shane Clouser of Gilbert 13-0.

Jay Miller also placed second at 160 pounds. He lost a 14-2 decision to fifth rated Mike Crouse of Gilbert.

At 135 Amos Greene and 160 Jay miller ran into two qualtiy wrestlers from Gilbert, both rated wrestlers, explained Coy.

Tony Pederson finished in third place for the Hawks at 112 pounds. He glued Matthew Neiman of Neveda in 4:18 to earn the bronze medal.

Anthony Buck placed fourth at 130 Pounds. He lost his last match 7-0 to Hershel Edwards of East Marshall.

Justin Thompson wound up in fourth place at 140 pounds. He dropped his final match to Adam Bailey of East Marshall 4-3.

Trent Johnson finished in fifth at 103 pounds. He beat Colin Madden of Roland-Story 11-3 in his final match.

Josh Blomgren placed fifth at 119 pounds in his first varsity tournament. He beat Chris Webb of Roland-Story 803 in his last match.

Keith Vulgamott also finished in fifth spot at 189 pounds. he beat BJ Anderson of Roland-Story 3-1 in his final bout.

Dan Fox was sixth at 171 pounds. He lost his last match by fall to Joe Downs of Nevada.

South Hamilton is 3-0 in duals and has finished first and second in the tournaments they have entered so far.
