Decade Magazines in Progress

8th graders became part of a magazine publishing company as they created decade magazines. They researched people and events from a particular decade to feature in their original magazines.

The students took on the roles of writers, editors, graphic artists, and layout designers as they published their original magazines. Some of those magazines published were Looking Back On The 30's, Life in the Sixties, and American Times -- A Look Back at the 40's.

Some magazine articles included were "Jackie Robinson Inspired", "Weapons in World War II", "Fashion in the 1960's," "Marilyn Monroe," and Walt Disney's first animated cartoon, "Snow White." Many other topics were featured to highlight events of the decades.

The magazines were printed and bound. They are on display in the classroom, and copies were made to add to their language arts portfolios.
