Jane Goodall

Do you know how Jane Goodall is? If not, let me tell you a little about her. Well, she was born in London, England in 1934. After grauating from high school Jane went to secretarial school and then had a series of jobs aat Oxford University and for a film studio that made documentary films. Jane wanted to go to Africa since she was a child and when an old friend from school invited her to visit her in Kenya, Jane eargerly accepted. She sailed from London on the passenger liner, the Kenya Castle. Two months after being there she met Louis Leakey whom gave her a job. Nine months afte being in Africa she saved enough to have her mother come and visit, While her mother was visiting Dr. Leakey wncouraged Jane to take up a sstudy group of wild chimpanzees. She needed a companion to do the study so her mother decided to go with her.

In her late twenties she fulfiled a childhood ambition by visiting Africa. In Kenya, she met the renowned anthropolgist Louis Leakey, becoming his sectetary. At the time he was proposing a feild study of chimpamzees as a possible way of gaining insight into human evolution. Despite having no formal academic trining, Jane Goodall's patience and enthysiasm convinced Leaky that she was the person to carry out his study.
