Jane Goodall's Time Line

 

April 3, 1934 born in London, England

1957 in Africa, met famous paleoanthropologist (study of early forms of fossil humans as in Neanderthals), Dr. Louis Leakey

summer 1960 arrived in Tanzania and stopped at Lake Tangahyika's eastern shore ( South Africa)

1960 began her study of champs at Gombe National Park on the shores of Lake Tanganyika

July 16, 1960 her and her mom finally made the boat trip to Gombe

1960 founed a new field, it was named Ethology

1964 two first assistants accompanied her

1965 achieved the most unique distinction of becoming a Cambridge Phd without any first degree

1965 received PhD from Cambridge University

1967 has been the Scientific Director of the Gombe Stream Reasearch Center

1997founded the Jane Goodall Institute in Ridgefield, Connecticut for chimp research

1984 received the J. Paul Getty Wildlife Conservation Prize for helping people understanding chimps

1985 25 years of anthropolpgical and conserrvation research was publlished, helping us all to better understand the relationships between all creatures

1991 "Roots and Shoots" environmental program for schools started and has spread to 20 countries

September 1, 1997 said "Infant chimps are byproducts who get sold on the streets" for The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper

December, 1997 announced that the total cout of the chimps living in the wild is 251,000 in the world and is dramatically falling
