Biography
Gregor Mendel, the son of Anton and Rosine Mendel, was born in
Heinzindorf, Ausria on July 22, 1822. On January 6,1884 he died
in Brno. Growing up on a farm got Mendel interested about plants.
While he was in school he didn't have time to study plants, but
when he started to teach as an Augustinian monk that taught
natural science to high school students he had more free time to
study plants. Mendel's first two articles were published in 1853
and 1854. They were both about damage to plants by insects.
Between 1856 and 1863 Mendel planted and tested almost 28,000
plants. Mendel brought an end to speculation on heredity. He also
played the lottery all the time and never won!
