Keyboarding Applications 1

Grades - 10 - 12
Elective
Credit:  1 Term

Mastery of the keyboard on the computer including numbers and special symbols is stressed as well as proofreading and the use of proofreaders' symbols.  Basic areas of study include personal and business letters, centering, tabulating, and correction.  A person enrolling in this class should strongly consider taking Keyboarding Applications  2.

 

Keyboarding Applications 2
Grade - 10 - 12

Credit:  1 Term

This second term course is recommended for anyone going on to college or who intends to use the computer skill in their profession.  Although this course is usually regarded as a career offering, it will and should be taken by students who desire greater skills for their personal use than they have been able to build in one semester.  Typical units to be covered are basic skills, manuscripts, themes, outlines, reports with footnotes or endnotes, business letters, tabulations, rough draft and composition on the computer.  Careful proofreadings and neat, accurate, usable copy are standards to be achieved on all units.

 

Keyboarding Applications 3
Grade -  11 - 12

Credit:  1 Term

Third term keyboarding has its main objective as training of competent, skilled information processors.  Since this is an advanced course, the students should progress to new levels of production, increase their understanding of essential related knowledge, continue to improve work habits, and generally develop their competence to the maximum.  Many of the units covered in Keyboarding Applications 2 will be expanded to involve problemsolving, critical thinking, and job training skills.  Special introduction to software such as Pagemaker, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and html are also included.

 

Keyboarding Applications 4
Grade - 11 - 12

Credit:  1 Term

Fourth term Keyboarding Applications 4 is the most advanced course offered in our business program.  Its main objective is to refine and improve all techniques and skills obtained in Keyboarding Applications 3.  Performance of advanced skills to create professional- looking documents or special media projects is primarily the content of this course.  The projects will include various applications of different types of software.

 

Accounting 1
Grade - 11-12
Elective
Credit:  1 Term

Students receive instuction in analyzing and recording various business transactions and in completing the accounting cycle.  This course is recommended for those students who have had no prior accounting courses and/or accounting experiences.

Students will also receive the individual knowledge of basic accounting theory along with basic accounting procedures.  Topics to  be covered will  include the following:   financial records, role of accounting clerk, and job opportunities in accounting.  Areas of study will include purchase/sale of merchandise, payment of expenses and year-end accounting procedures.

 

Accounting 2
Grade - 12
Elective
Credit:  1 Term

Accounting 2 builds on the areas of study from Accounting 1.  Topics include recording of information in special journals and payroll accounting.  This class will practice accounting procedures by completing the simulation Viking Marine.

 

Accounting 3
Grade - 12
Elective
Credit:  1 term

Accounting 3 is for those students who will be pursuing a career in a business-related area.  Topics to be covered include uncollectible accounts, depreciation, inventory management, notes, and corporation accounting.  This class will practice accounting procedures by completing the simulation Western Rider.

 

Office Procedures (I and II are combined)

Credit:  1 Term

Office Procedures is devoted to the business simulation Mean Jeans, Inc.  Students apply for and manage one of 15 businesses.

 

 

Personal Business Management
Grades - 9-12

Credit:  1 Term

Personal Business Management is a course designed to provide students with tools necessary to meet a variety of future needs--making career decisions, managing money, and keeping up-to-date with technology.  This course is for any grade level, but primarily for freshmen.

 

 

Independent Yearbook
Grades - 9-12
Elective
Credit:  1 Term

Independent yearbook is a course designed to accommodate individual needs at different interest levels.  Students may be involved in photography, layout, cropping, caption and headline writing, tagging, indexing, interviewing, and advertising.  Students are expected to demonstrate dependability, a good work ethic, and the ability to work on their own to meet deadlines.
